(uh muh gawd) Shoes.

This hilarious little homemade gem mixes the brilliance of low budget, but appreciatable early 1980s videos with Kids In the Hall-style humor. Everytime I see it I laugh to tears. (****WARNING*****Be prepared for some profanity those of you that are bothered by such.)

I waited a long time for this one.

While randomly scrolling around the Web site of a local entertainment magazine a couple of weeks ago, I thought I was briefly hallucinating to see Yo La Tengo's name. I thought for a second, it must be a misprint. Surely they weren't playing in Birmingham. They've never played in Birmingham. Seven years ago best friend Roy and and I drove to Atlanta to see them at the Tabernacle and the show was sold out. Later that night a crazy dog belonging to my sister's then roommate tried to attach Roy, tearing a hole in his shirt. My sister lived in the hood at the time. It wasn't a very good night. The show was crowded, frustratingly so with two bartenders to work a crowd of at least 200. The opening act wasn't worth mentioning and I don't even care how un-arty and out-of-touch it is to say you don't give a shit about free-form jazz. It sucked, made my ears hurt and eyes want to bleed because of the mind reverberations caused by their clarinet craziness. Yo La T

The Birmingham Sound, show 2

Saturday, January 13 provided an opportunity to shake off the winter cobwebs and experience another imbodiment of The Birmingham Sound at Bottletree. Roscoe Robinson, Roszetta Johnson, Leon McMillan and others provided us a fine night of soul and the audience, while smaller than the first show, was plenty enthused (as Sara Leah Miller shows in the bottom picture.) More pictures are here.

new digs

The landlord says it was built in the 19 teens. It's definitely the nicest one-bedroom apartment I have seen in Birmingham and it will be nicer when I get some critters. The quietness is deafening at the moment.

Asheville, N.C., Jan. 2007

Asheville is only 30 minutes from Brevard so we spent a day there. Nice shops and restaurants everywhere, but I prefer the small-town mountain vibe of Brevard anyday. More photos are here.

How I spent my holidays part 2

I spent Christmas in Monteagle, Tenn. with my parents, aunt, uncle and grandmother. It's a nice, quiet little town with plenty of good flea markets close by. We had a second Christmas in Brevard, N.C. with my sister and later with Clare. It rained almost the entire time, but we had fun indoors and an excellent late gift exchange. More pictures are here.

How I spent my holidays part 1

Clare and I went to Missoula, Montana to see my parents for a late Thanksgiving. There was snow on the ground all week and we spent a lot of time inside playing poker. Clare found a case of beer for $5.99 and tried to make the best of it, but it found a better home at the Sigma Nu house just a few blocks away. After all, it is called Bootie beer. We had fun with the three pups and enjoyed some Brown-style r and r. The rest of the photos are here .

January blahs

I hate January and this one is no exception. I have a new address and although I'm happy about it, adjustment is hard. I struggle with how personal to get on this blog because I like to keep Soundboard de Cheevo geared toward the general, but the general is personal at this moment. I'm not going to hash it all out on this blog so sporatic posting is the best I can do at the moment. Stay tuned for brighter pastures coming soon I hope.
