B is great, gives me chocolate cake

That's what cousins are for -- spoiling babies with Mimi's chocolate cake.

We don't get to eat like this every day so we all might as well enjoy it.

B--we are so "of one mind" that i even got your chocolate cake reference here. Bill Cosby rocks, adn cake makes a fabulous breakfast, by the way. It's no diffeent than cereal, muffins, donuts, etc!

Hey Jamie -- forgot to follow up on your "Raising Arizona" comment. That movie has been a reoccuring theme for me all summer and has always been one of my all-time favorites. It's timeless and never stops being funny, even after hundreds of viewings.

I love the USA!

Today I flew to Nashville for my grandmother's 83rd birthday (much more on that later), but I had some fun moments in the early a.m. on Southwest Airlines. First off, thanks to my LYB for giving her sister the hook up with a super cheap round-trip ticket to Nashville. Yes, I should have driven from Birmingham, but my car is in the shop and this ticket was cheaper than renting a car. Enough about all that, now to the humor. After two hours of sleep last night I boarded a plane this morning got an excellent window seat and sat peacefully with my Diet Coke and the ever frivolous SkyMall magazine. As the plane was turning on its pre-engine switches (you know where the fans come on, but the engine isn't on yet) an older woman, clothed in a bizarre South American dress with an embroidered woman on the front that said "Honduras", raised her hand and said to the flight attendant, "My husband will be here in five minutes." Little hero

I know I need to stop looking, listening and over absorbing myself in the news from the Gulf Coast, but it sure is hard to relax when you know that people so close by are suffering and possibly dying. I'm glad the news has some small stories of hope to report like people and animals being rescued and attended to. Last night, in our much tamer version of the storm, a beautiful small pigeon got confused (with the barometric pressure drop I guess) and flew right into our glass front door. She was stunned, but not badly hurt from what I observed. K and I made her a little nest in a drink cooler with towels and bird seed and she stayed there all night and was gone by morning. I wish I could reach out to others in need right now like we did that pigeon last night. All I can hope and pray for is that the Red Cross and National Guard can take care of the many hundreds of people and animals that need so much help right now. I wish there was more we could do because it seems like those of us...
