1946 -- Clarke County, Alabama

I had a happy moment today when I found a CD of family photos that had been missing for over a year. My cousin Stephanie has become the Brown family curator and she has found some real gems like this one. The curly-headed baby is my father and the man holding him is his big brother John Tollie Brown with his wife Sarah Reeves Brown. Tollie probably in his mid-twenties when this photo was taken. Uncle Tollie and Aunt Sarah had their own family soon after this photo was taken starting with their first son, Jim, and four sons followed him. My sister and I have never seen many baby pictures of our dad so seeing this for the first time really brought a smile to my face. Like baby Ben, Jerry Elijah Brown got lots of attention as a baby and, come to think of it, he still gets lots of attention.

I love old photos. But they're the reason I can never keep my bedroom clean. Any clean-up job always turns into me sitting on the floor, looking at every picture I own, and the next thing I know it's 3 am and I have to go to bed.

That is another trait we have in common. I do that every time I go down to the basement to retrieve some random item and come back up three hours later in memoryville bliss.

Those are all awesome pictures. I love looking back at old photos. It seems so hard to believe they were living in that moment the picture was taken. (Does that make sense?)

Have you ever noticed how all those people from a certain era all kind of look the same? I don't know if it's the hairstyles or the clothes or the black and white or what...but I've always found it rather eerie.

I found these little slips of paper one time in our attic and they turned out to be food rations from during the war. That was pretty neat to see.

Lee Ann,I totally know what you mean. I have a hard time believing that baby is my father and I only knew Uncle Tollie as an old man that easily could have been my grandfather.

Beckeye -- I found some food rations in my grandparents house after my grandfather died. It sure gives you an appreciation of how good we have it when you look back at those artifacts. What is interesting to me about these photos is how in pictures of my Dad's grandparents, they were not smiling. There are many photos that were taken at the turn of the century were people didn't look happy at all.

I have a CD as well that holds all of our photos from the past.

I am old enough to remember that it was rare for man to step out of the house and being in a suit and hat.

An era that lasted for decades, men and women in hats....

what happened to us?

Mojo, Did you see the picture I posted of my grandparents (a couple of pictures down from this one). That picture was taken on a Sunday most likely after church and notice that my grandfather had a suit and had and granny had a hat and white gloves. When I look back at these photos from the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s, I am really taken by the class of dress, hair and style in general. I mentioned that in the post with my Aunt Dot (see below)

Happy Birthday Audrey Rose!

Audrey Rose Georges turned one year old today. Her mom, Angela, made this wonderful invitation for the occasion and has done an excellent job of documenting Audrey from a positive pregnancy test to her most recent milestone, taking her first steps, through her blog, My Daily Struggle . This is one well-documented and adored kid and I hope Angela and Papa Tim congratulate themselves on 12 months of excellent hard work. Audrey is a little superstar.

Does anyone remember the video for this song. It was so stupid. The Banarama girls were being followed by a trucker and they threw some banana peels on his windshield -- like that would stop him. Any other '80s fans out there remember any more details? I still loved the group and still love the song. I actually have this single on vinyl -- just like the picture. Tomorrow will be a beast. Today the air conditioning was like the Little Engine that Could except this little engine never made it over the hill. The dog pants all the time like she can never quite catch her breath and outside it is just nasty. Even at midnight tonight it was still 85 degrees and a super sauna outside. I have an elaborate system of fans set up in the bedroom and it helps. Andi even has her own fan and she sleeps jacked up right next to it.
