Hurricane Dennis Party -- Sunday, July 10
We got lucky because Dennis lost a lot of power once it hit land and all we got was a lot of rain and wind. I know some trees came down in Crestwood, but not in our block. Weeks ago I had invited Eric and Jennifer over to celebrate their wedding (5/5/05) and Peter came over earlier in the day to play music with me. I made so much food and knew Mama MC was stir crazy next door so I invited the Fondren Family 3 over as well. We had a quite a house full. Seven adults, Lucy and Andi representing the canine species and Baby Ben, who spent most of the night sleeping in his car seat. We had a great showing of guitarists -- 4 to be exact with 2 mandolins and Peter playing drums most of the night (and switching to guitar for a few songs). Eric, Peter and I rocked to some old Every Alice On Earth songs (our band we started in college), Violent Femmes, Pixies and then we brought out the SBS songbook that Jason made four copies of for the members of the Short Bus Singers -- Myself, MC, Jason and K. It was really nice to hear the songs done with an extra guitar, some of Eric's signature guitar flair and of course percussion. The difference was dramatic and I especially enjoyed singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" with MC. We were dorking out in a major The New Main Street Singers kind of way.
We played some John Denver, Electric Light Orchestra, Johnny Cash and really rocked on Elvis's "Suspicious Minds." I wanted us to play all night, but folks were getting tired, tiny boy had to be put to bed and some people had to work today, although lots of places closed because Dennis was predicted to be much so much worse. We dodged a bullet this time with no damage or power outages and had a fantastic dinner music party. I hope we get to do it again and soon!

oh, I like your art work on your other blog.
you do that for a living I take it.
the "scary" looking guy is actually a very good-lookin' sweet guy named Peter who I have known for a long time. He has always had a talent for hamming it up for the camera.
Yes I do art for a living if you can call it that. Lately I have been doing other jobs like pulling weeds and housecleaning to make ends meet. Thanks for checking the art blog out.
