That cat is very funny! Is that your cat? Cats can be so disrespectful. I red the previous post as well. I think what this teaches us, is that you are on your own, I mean, the government might show up at some point, and there is always the possibility that when they show up things will only get worse, but being a refugee is the worst possible situation to be in. When a person walks into a shelter during a time of crisis, you give up a lot of rights that you otherwise take for granted. Going into a shelter is to be avoided at all costs, cuz yeah, you're at their mercy, who ever they happens to be.
Ha...I felt the same way. I avoided word verification for as long as I possibly could. Some of the spam comments were actually funny enough to ridicule. But once I got one that was like 6 paragraphs long, I figured it was time to end it.
Your last post and this first comment illustrate the reason why I am a conservative-bordering-on-libertarian. I can do a much better job managing my money and resources than the federal government EVER will, so just gimme those damn taexs back and I will live off of MY savings, MY retirement, MY food storage, and MY 72-hour emergency kit. My family and my church will ALWAYS be a more efficient means of security and rescue than the freaking government.

Jamie -- TRUE DAT all the way girl. I have been thinking the same thing about the Government. Give me my damn money back and lets just play 'everyone fend for themselves' I never thought that I would begin to understand the mentality of people that hate the government and start militias, but after this week I feel differently. Dubyah's good-ole-boy buddy as the head of FEMA held his last job as the president of an arabian horse association? Are you f*cking kidding me? These guys are pointing at the other guy with one hand and scratching their butts with the other. Such an embarrassment!
Girl, you know it's true! Watch out Brooks, or you're gonna have to move to Montana with the rest of us crazy libertarians! You can write your manifesto and start your militia right down the valley...
I would love to be in Montana right now. It's been one of those weeks where it hurts having my parents so far away. I just can't believe what I've seen with my own eyes down at our civic center. People, children, have lived through hell this week in New Orleans. The looks on their faces breaks my heart, but I know they need help and I am glad that our community is here to do that.
I found it by doing a Google Image search for "bird flipping". What is cool is that these .gif files are animated. I would love to figure out how to create my own.
It's hard to believe the Gulf Coast is being threatened so soon. Is Mother Nature angry with us? I wonder if there will be an end to this long line of furious hurricanes or if the Gulf Coast will eventually be completely wiped out. Is this really the end result of global warming? I wonder if the government can afford to build houses and buildings can be built strong enough to withstand 165 winds because that sure seems like where we are headed. Once again, the newsroom was buzzing tonight with news of Hurriance Rita. A large part of South Florida has been evacuated and when this storm heads in the Gulf, the warm waters are likely to create the same situation as Katrina by turning a category 2 or 3 into a 4 or 5. Predictors say there is a chance this hurricane could hit New Orleans again which sure is making Ray Nagin again look stupid as he he went against the feds by encouraging residents to come back into the city to have to turn around and tell them to evacuate again. Here's...
For those of you that might have missed the most crazy random headline of the past week, on Monday, August 22, The Rev. Pat Robertson , one-time presidential candidate and full-time zealous maniac made the following remark referring to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez: "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war, and I don't think any oil shipments will stop." He continued: "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability." - - Take him out? Has America's favorite uber "Christian", who has blamed 9/11 on the ACLU (among others), been watching "The Sopranos" and conveniently forgotten one of the most important Ten Commandments? The ridiculous and hypocritical nature of this statement is newsworthy, but not the first...
Today I flew to Nashville for my grandmother's 83rd birthday (much more on that later), but I had some fun moments in the early a.m. on Southwest Airlines. First off, thanks to my LYB for giving her sister the hook up with a super cheap round-trip ticket to Nashville. Yes, I should have driven from Birmingham, but my car is in the shop and this ticket was cheaper than renting a car. Enough about all that, now to the humor. After two hours of sleep last night I boarded a plane this morning got an excellent window seat and sat peacefully with my Diet Coke and the ever frivolous SkyMall magazine. As the plane was turning on its pre-engine switches (you know where the fans come on, but the engine isn't on yet) an older woman, clothed in a bizarre South American dress with an embroidered woman on the front that said "Honduras", raised her hand and said to the flight attendant, "My husband will be here in five minutes." She said this very matter-of-factly like sh...
